The Black Box - Reflection

Erika Kruger's work on "The Black Box" as depicted in this image is very eccentric in its nature and pays tribute to her unique, multifaceted perspective on shadow. Through her use of evocative ideas and forms she is able to create an expressive work that communicates a distinct message to the observer. From gaining an understanding of her approach to design, I hope develop concept driven designs that foreground unique ideas rather than the requirements of a brief. This will enable release from conventional norms and the development of more meaningful architecture. In addition to Kruger's ability to generate concepts she is able to implement them with their initial impact through her multifaceted consideration of all aspects of form. She values not only the physical architecture but also the environment which occurs as a result of it. Thus she calculates and very skillfully uses shadows to add another dimension to her designs, presenting another element which I aim to explore.
